UTILITY PROGRAMS (TOOLS)
Utility program is a type of system software that is used to analyze, configure, organize and maintain all of the computer resources such as hardware, operating system, application software, computer files, data storage etc., so that the computer can perform better. These are set of commonly used programs in data processing department. They perform they following operations: file maintenance, sorting, file conversion, copy etc.
It is also known as service programs because it performs tasks related to the control and allocation of computer resources. Most utilities are built in as part of the system software.
